A typical SWE focuses on product development. An FDE embeds at the customer, owning outcomes from discovery through implementation, deployment and adoption, spanning presales to customer success.

Full-stack implementation in Python etc., API/system integration, LLM/RAG implementation know-how, plus requirements definition, problem decomposition and customer communication. Bridging technology and business is highly valued.

Senior FDE → FDE lead/manager, or into Deployment Strategist, Solutions Architect or the product side. Because you gain both business and technical experience, later options are broad.
